Prof. Jenna Spevack | Teaching Site

Web Design: AD550

COURSE CALENDAR | WEEK 15 CLASS OUTLINE | Homework | EXAM

Final Projects are DUE!

  1. EXAM (1 hour)
  2. SURVEY (10 minutes)
    • Please take this anonymous course survey-- it's different from the one given by the college.
  3. Domain Names and Hosting (5 minutes)
    • If you are interested in buying your own domain name and renting space on a server to host your web site, I recommend going to pair Networks to do both. Start with the FTP Account option for $5.95/month.
    • You have the option to purchase your domain name as you setup your hosting account or you can go to pairNIC to buy it separately. If you purchase your name (for example: jennaspevack.com), I would recommend buying it for the full 5 years. That is unless you plan to change your name in the next five years.
    • Email me if you have more questions or need help choosing a name.
  4. CRITIQUE (2 hours)
    • You will be critiquing a colleague's project and presenting his/her site to the class for feedback. Participation in the critique is NOT optional. It is a significant part of your grade (15%). Your written feedback and verbal participation will not affect your classmates' grades, but it will affect yours.
    • Find a partner and write up a short critique of your partner's site by filling out and submitting this form for credit.
    • Give your partner constructive criticism relating to use of color, contrast, balance, alignment, proper XHTML structure, CSS implementation, etc. Phrases like "It's hot" and "I like it" are not acceptable without a detailed explanation of the "hotness" and "likeableness". Note how the website is successful and how the website can be improved.
    • Before critiquing your partner's final project, review the Final Project RUBRIC and Final Project description to see the requirements for the project.
  5. GRADING:
    • Review the Final Project Description for specific details on proper delivery of your work.
    • Upload all layouts to the FTP. Make a jpg of each mockup and upload it to your folder on the FTP server. Mockup files should be named: mockup01.jpg and mockup02.jpg.
    • Make sure all site files are up on the FTP server and functioning properly. Check the student portfolio page to make sure your page is linking from it correctly. All projects will be graded from this list.
    • Make sure your projects are up and running for the Student Show, on view at: http://adga.citytech.cuny.edu/~ad2247/
