COURSE CALENDAR | WEEK 13 CLASS OUTLINE | Homework
Discussion
- Turn in SUBWAY Map project -- put in dropbox on ADGA server.
- Review Final Project storyboards and sketches
- Preparing your illustrations for animations
- We will be creating the illustrations (background and character) in Illustrator and importing them into the Flash library (turning them into symbols).
- Our final animation will be 320x240px. It might be easier to set your Illustrator artboard to this size, rather than resizing later.
- When creating a character with articulated parts (hands, arms, head, etc.) that will animate independently from the whole character, be sure to move each to separate named layers. This will make it easier to turn each into a symbol in Flash.
- Put the background on a separate layer too. If parts of the background will interact with the animation (ie: the character will travel behind a tree) make sure they are on separate layers.
- Export your illustrator file as SWF (Export > SWF). Choose AI Layers to SWF Files while exporting. This will save out individual swf files for each layer.
Lab
- Overview and introduction to FLASH (pdfs can be found in technical support)
- We will follow this FLASH tutorial to learn about using graphics, layers, motion, sound and text in a Flash movie.
- If there is a certain animation effect you would like to achieve find a tutorial that explains how:
Complete these tutorials to get a full understanding of how to animate in Flash:
Work on Final Project
- IN ILLUSTRATOR: Finish your background and character. Export your illustrator file as SWF (Export > SWF). Choose AI Layers to SWF Files while exporting. This will save out individual swf files for each layer.
- IN FLASH: Create a new Flash movie (320x240px, 12 frames per second) and import the exported SWF files into the library (File > Import to Library). Once imported you will find the layers of your illustration in the Library (Window > Library). Rename each graphic symbol and set the pivot point for each. Set up the layers in the timeline and create the necessary key frames based on your storyboard actions.
- Bring these to class next week.
