2D Animation: AD540

COURSE DOCUMENTS | MIDTERM PROJECT and EXAM

** Your projects must be burned to CD and placed in the AD3540 Dropbox at the start of class **

  1. PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Through Pacing, Phrasing and Timing of an action and the basic principles of animation, create an animated sequence that expresses one of the following emotions:
      1. Joy
      2. Sadness
      3. Fear
    2. Your animated sequence must clearly demonstrate the following basic principles and practices of traditional animation:
      • Key Frames and Inbetweens
      • Slow-in and Slow-out
      • Different Paths of Action (using arcs)
      • Overlapping Action
      • Drag
      • Follow Through
      • Accurate use of a timing chart
      • The effects of gravity and the laws of motion
      • Squash and Stretch
      • Repeating Cycle
      • Consistent and accurate Form and Volume
    3. Use the roughly drawn animation experiments we have created over the last few weeks as templates for a clean, final animated sequence. Further develop and then composite some or all of these animations into a sequence.
      • Ball bounce
      • Slow-in and Out Ball
      • Movement and Timing Exercise - Funny Animal
      • Pendulum Swing
      • Overlapping Action - waving line
      • Overlapping Action, Follow-Through, Drag - Double Ball
      • Flag
      • Walk Cycle
    4. Your final drawings should be clean and well-rendered. You may add color if you wish. If you haven't invested in a drawing tablet, now is the time.
  2. DELIVERY:
    1. Name your composite file with your first initial, last name, midterm (ex: jspevack_midterm). Save the final fla and swf files into a folder with the same file name.
    2. Drop the folder in the ADV3540 > Midterm_Project on the ADGA server (10.10.110.16)
    3. Create a backup on CD, just in case.
    4. ** If you haven't already turned in your previous experiments (Thaumatrope, Zoetrope strips, and Flipbook, etc.) or would like to turn in improved versions, the last day to do so is Week 08.**
  3. GRADING:
    1. Grades for late projects will drop by half.
    2. Midterm Projects that do not follow the Project Requirements will not be graded.
    3. The Rubric that will be used to grade your project has been defined. Please read it before turning in your project.
